Logo design

Vibrant and energetic logo design for a kids' hip-hop dance crew.

The brief was to design a logo for a small, children's hip-hop group called the "B Bairns Crew" (bairn is the Scots word for child).

I wanted to reference the 80s when the hip-hop and rap music, and their distinctive dance scene, first evolved, but at the same time avoid the grunge and spray-paint usually associated with the genre. Instead, I opted to reference the fun, bright colours of the Memphis movement (also a child of the 80s) and use shapes to help illustrate the movement and playfulness experienced by the kids while they dance.

The final logo is a dynamic one where the colours can be interchanged, the elements modified, and the lettering reduced to just the signature 'b'. Since the group has limited budget, I also developed a monochrome version too.
