Hello. As you've probably guessed from the logo at the top of the page my name is Craig McKenzie. I'm a graphic designer, based in Aberdeen.
I like to think of myself as a creative-type. I enjoy learning and never want to stop. A while back, I took the plunge and decided to move in a whole new career direction - towards visual communication.
In a former life I worked as a Technical Lead, designing software systems, managing a team of developers, and helping code complex software. I enjoyed working closely with my clients to ensure the delivered systems met all their requirements.
I've a PhD in Computing Science (specialising in Machine Reasoning, Constraint Satisfaction Problem solving and the Semantic Web - all of which fall in the Artificial Intelligence domain). Basically, I love tech and all things digital. In fact, I can bore you for hours talking about IT stuff should you be stupid enough to ask.
There are a lot of parallels between software development and design: understanding the brief; understanding the client; and delivering on your promises. Having a digital background certainly helps but now, instead of writing software, I get to be creative and develop the best design that works.
In my spare time I enjoy practising photography and drawing.
Branding, logos, typography and all types of print design (business cards, flyers/brochures, signage, posters and labels).
Creation of analog, digital and vector-based illustrations, infographics, kinetic typography and 2D animations.
Design for the web, websites, banners, app interfaces and graphics.
